Dear Partners and Clients,
As we wrap up 2024, we want to take a moment to reflect on what an exciting and fruitful year it has been for amofor. Together with our partners, we’ve made tremendous strides in advancing in-silico formulation development and pushing the boundaries of pharmaceutical science. Our continued efforts to develop better tools for the industry, like our Solcalc software, have enabled us to contribute to several key publications this year. Here’s a quick look at some of our most exciting work!
A Year of Pioneering Research: Our 2024 Publication Highlights
- Development of Amorphous Solid Dispersions
Trenkenschuh et al. (2024), Mol. Pharm.
DOI: 10.1021/acs.molpharmaceut.3c00696
Together with partners from Boehringer Ingelheim, we explored the transition from spray-drying to hot-melt extrusion for producing ASDs, showing how adjusting particle size can control drug release profiles.
Learn also more in our blog article. - Release Mechanisms of ASDs
Deac et al. (2024), Mol. Pharm.
DOI: 10.1021/acs.molpharmaceut.3c01179
We dive into the mechanisms that govern the dissolution behavior of ASDs, including the prediction of limits of congruency using ternary phase diagrams.
Borrmann et al. (2024), Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
DOI: 10.1016/j.xphs.2024.10.022
This paper discusses how high drug loads in ASDs can lead to phase separation and a loss of drug release, highlighting how formulation strategies can overcome this challenge.

Zäh et al. (2023), Int J Pharm.
DOI: 10.1016/j.ijpharm.2023.122836
This work predicts amorphous-phase compositions during lyophilization, reducing experimental efforts for process optimization in pharmaceutical formulations. - Polymer Recycling and PET Glycolysis Modeling
Schlüter et al. (2024), Ind. Eng. Chem. Res.
DOI: 10.1021/acs.iecr.4c02382
This study presents predictive modeling of the PET glycolysis reaction, making strides in sustainable polymer recycling. - ASD Shelf-Life Predictions
Grönniger et al. (2024), Molecular Pharmaceutics
DOI: 10.1021/acs.molpharmaceut.3c01056
Modeling the long-term stability of ASDs provides critical insights into how water sorption and crystallization affect formulation shelf life.
With these cutting-edge publications, we’ve made great strides in understanding and solving some of the most complex challenges in pharmaceutical formulation. The results presented in these studies were all calculated using Solcalc, our powerful software for in-silico formulation development, which continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the field.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As the year draws to a close, we’re more excited than ever about the future. With your continued partnership, we’re confident that we will push the frontiers of pharmaceutical science even further in the coming year.
